The use of GIS allows to record, process, and analyse comprehensive site-related Information, particularly when employed in a hybrid way combinig vector and raster data.
Digital Maps
The results of the field work (e.g. forest management planning) are digitally recorded (vector data) and may be printed as colour plots in any scale up to DIN A0 size.
Surrounding Area Detail
To show the details of the surrounding area raster data of lot maps, topographical maps, aerial picture maps, or a scanned image of any other suitable document may be used.
Extracting and Combining Information
For better analysis, digital map contents may be extracted and combined with other contents to form new maps showing various aspects of your data (e.g. forest function maps, site maps, forest management maps). The resulting data can be further processed in the database.
When plotted, the vector data of the recorded lots is set off in various colours (depending on community territory etc.) against a background consisting of the raster data of the lot map.
Variability / Focal Maps
In combination with the forest manabgement database, the GIS (see also forstware.de) allows the creation of focal maps showing for instance exploitation methods, tending urgency, hauling information, timber storage places and transport routes or hunting districts.
